What can a mother do for a child who doesn’t show interest in reading
There is nothing worse than a child who shows not interest in learning to read and is already 7 years old. As a mother you are quite concerned thinking ‘what can I do to help motivate my chid to want to read”. Maybe a good question is why doesn’t he want to read.? A goood place to start is checking to see if his vision for reading is okay. Yes they do give vision tests in school that just tests that you can see but ,what about reading words ? You can test that by having him set the book on a table and read. Then have him hold the book up in a closer proximity to his eyes and see if there is a difference. If everything is okay with his vision it may just be that he may need some phonetics. Our brain searches for patterns when we read. To many times teacher teach the whole word and to memorize them. Some children find that confusing and get discouraged from reading. Another approach would be to find a lighthearted tutor who makes reading fun and exciting. There is no greater gift thant the gift of reading. Children who can read well and also do well in other subjects as well. Find out what his interests are and find a book on that subject maybe you can both find out more about that subject together as a Summer project . Even if he reads for ten to fifiteen minutes a day. I have been teaching young children to read for the last ten years and I hope this helps you.
